Miller’s East Coast Deli -- San Francisco, CA

If you’re looking for classic Jewish deli fare in Nob Hill, look no further than Miller’s East Coast Deli.

While Miller’s has an extensive menu, the star of the show is their pastrami sandwich. Thin-sliced and piled high, Miller’s hot pastrami sandwich comes in two sizes: big and bigger. If you like your pastrami cut on the fat side, just ask. The sandwich comes with a deli pickle and choice of coleslaw, potato salad or macaroni salad. Miller’s is one of the few places where customers rave about the coleslaw; it is not to be missed.

If hot pastrami isn’t your favorite, Miller’s has you covered. The five-page menu covers all the Jewish-deli classics. Some favorites include hot corned beef, matzo ball soup, potato latkes, knishes and blintzes. There are even several kosher meat options.

It has a casual feel, and a quiet and intimate atmosphere. The aroma is soft, beautiful and euphoric. Waiting for your food has never been such a breeze. But do not fret, you will not wait long for the food they are anxious to serve you. 

You can start off with the fish cakes. The fish cakes are deep fried ground fish cakes, which are carefully marinated in delicious Thai spices. It comes with green beans that are stuffed with very sweet and delectable carrots. To top it off, it is served with a cucumber salad. After that why not try their Spicy Wings? They are deep fried chicken wings that are tainted with a delicious combination of garlic, chili sauce, and some very tasty crispy basil leaves. Perhaps you would like to give your palate something a bit more familiar. The Bai Som Fried Rice is a popular dish. Many of the customers who frequent the restaurant rave about it. There are a few specialties though that make Bite famous! Vinny's Bag of Donuts has nothing to do with donuts! A wheat roll is stuffed with amazing meatballs, marinara sauce, and provolone cheese. The Star India Restaurant, located at 3721 Geary Avenue near Arguello Avenue has been serving meals with an emphasis on northern India cuisine since 1992. They also feature the more spicy southern Indian cuisine on their menu. Opened daily, Star India begins serving at 10:30 AM and closes at 10:30 PM. With its quaint storefront of coral, pink and red, India’s colorful culture is celebrated before entering. Once inside the space is comfortable and clean. Parties of up to thirty will easily be accommodated. Star India can be reserved for private parties, and a catering service is also offered. 

In addition to the full menu Star India also offers patrons a full buffet with 25 items that is served seven days a week. At only $9.99 it features many favorites including naan and papadam. Raita which is a refreshing yogurt dip made with dill, mint, garlic, and cucumber is also included. It cools and cleanses the palette between bites of the highly seasoned and at times very spicy cuisine. Chutneys, curries and tandooris round out the buffet. There is something for everyone including vegetarians. This is a great way for novices to sample the offerings. 

The full menu is straightforward. It includes sections for appetizers, breads, soups & salads, meat and fish dishes, vegetarian offerings, and rice dishes that are also known as biryanis. Side orders include pickled vegetables, dipping sauces and chutneys. Chutneys are akin to relishes and have well rounded flavors that are sweet, sour and spicy. Since the year 2000 Udupi Palace has been serving fresh and delicious south Indian vegetarian cuisine. A casual atmosphere is accentuated by a soothing beige and orange decor that features several types of Indian musical instruments and objects of art. 

The selection of appetizers at Udupi Palace includes Rasa Vada, Sambar Vada and Medhu Vada which are fried lentil donuts served with different soups.
